Jesus commanded in the Great Commission that we go out and make disciples, and teach them to obey all that was commanded.
Mat 28:18-20 NIV84 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. (19) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20) and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
I really believe that we need to take the great commission seriously. These were the parting words of Jesus before he ascended into heaven, and yet this great calling is often given the lowest priority. Somehow we have been diverted into doing just about anything else “in the name of Jesus” besides what we were actually commissioned to do. I place myself firmly in that category, and by no means am I pointing any fingers. I get distracted by just about everything else besides what I am called to do!
When I was first saved I read through the entire bible. I could not get enough of it! When I finished reading, I realised that I had a lot more questions than answers. I struggled to correlate what I had read with the practices I saw in church. Where did all these rituals and practices come from? Then when I started asking mature believers for explanations, I discovered that very few people within the church had even read their bibles.
I desperately needed a mentor. Someone who would disciple me, someone who would correct me, teach me, instruct me, encourage me – make me into a disciple…but that is something that is hard to find in most local churches. I soon realised that the internet had incredible resources. Sadly, it also dawned on me that I could not trust everything I read online or in a christian bookstore just because it came with a “christian label”. Scripture is very clear about end times deception. We MUST test everything against the word of God. Jesus himself took time to warn us about what lay ahead. I take that seriously.
It is my hope that this site will be a starting point for those who want to grow in their faith, for those who are looking to be challenged, for those who want to move off milk and onto solid food. This can be a great challenge and it is often uncomfortable. For a long time I just moved anything that was remotely contentious into a “disputable matters folder” which just grew and grew, but issues remained unresolved. I now earnestly seek to understand the issues we face as disciples from a biblical perspective. In the great commission we are called to obey everything that we have been commanded. I really, really want to do that because I love God.
NEVER take my word…or anyone else who you may see featured or linked on this site…test it for your yourself. Remember that it is scripture that is able to transform…not mans’ words, opinions and hollow philosophies.
2Ti 3:16-17 NIV84 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, (17) so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Col 2:8 NIV84 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
